Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a widely misunderstood phenomenon, that has been presented on tv in such a way as to create a completely misleading picture of what is happening.
The word hypnosis comes from the word hypnos, meaning to sleep, but in fact hypnosis is nothing to do with sleep whatsoever.
The nearest thing that hypnosis could be compared to is daydreaming, because the subject is never unconscious, and they are always in control, but they are helped into a natural state where their mind allows suggestions to slip into the subconscious.
Traditionally a person is hypnotised by listening to a hypnotic script, where they are gradually relaxed until their mind is receptive (there is an excellent ebook on hypnosis here) and the suggestions given to them.
However, it is clear that this is not always possible, and if you have watched the performance of any mentalist who has used hypnotic persuasion then you will be able to see that this is not what happens.
Instead a different hypnotic approach is used by the mentalist based on the work of the most famous hypnotist of all time - Dr Milton Erickson - who among other things developed the almost legendary instant handshake induction.
Erickson theorised that hypnosis is not a magical or mysterious force at all, but that people naturally slip into a hypnotic state several times a day. All that Erickson did was to find a way to help people to slip into a hypnotic state whenever he pleased!
Some of Ericksons most impressive work is in the area of conversational hypnosis, where a person can be hypnotised just by subtley using specific language and tone of voice, and if you can master this skill then you can imagine the power that you can exert over other people.

For those of you who are familiar with Sean’s first book, Explicit Content, you will no doubt be surprised by some of the material presented here. Explicit Content dealt primarily with creating visual experiences. X-Rated has no such theme. It really is a mixed bag. There is metal bending, mind-reading, predictions, and a few basic utility ideas contained within. Some of the real ‘jewels’ are hidden within the description of an effect. This was indeed intentional. Sean wanted you to be able to read this book multiple times, and always get something new out of it. This book is about more than the effects, it is about the how’s and why’s as well. This Treatise is comprised of routines that you can and will use in a variety of circumstances. The material is imminently practical, laser direct, and disturbingly powerful. Certain effects will require you to actually perform them to fully grasp their power, and others will be apparent with a simple mirror presentation. Others still will immediately warm your cackles with their secret. There really is something for everyone here.
